Digi International® Inc.
(Nasdaq: DGII) today announced the acquisition of Rabbit Semiconductor,
Inc., formerly Z-World®, Inc., a privately held corporation
and the manufacturer of the popular Rabbit® line of microprocessors
and microprocessor - based core modules and Z-World single board
computers. The acquisition is a merger transaction for $49 million
of cash.
This news is
excellent, as Digi International
brings many
new opportunities to our New Zealand customers.
Not only in the
strengthening of the Rabbit 8 Bit micro product range that will
take place but ..........
We see the ARM
32 bit micros from Digi International, as a big addition for
our customers that are running out of puff or memory room with
the Rabbit micro, as the market makes demands for larger applications.

We should know,
we needed a 16 bit voltage or current input module for a project
that could sample at 30-50Hz for less than $800NZ. We looked
and looked and you know we have nearly every DAQ manufacturer
in the world and we could not find anything. There are several
very expensive units and the ADAM modules below this, but they
can only sample at about 10HZ.
Texmate make
a very complete range of Intelligent Measurement Modules. The
model we are offering here is what we are using in our project,
it has an RS-232 continuous ASCII output stream of readings at
up to 100HZ if you like, very high grade 16 bit ADC, actually
it can be used to do accurate strain gauge work also, as it has
a high stability excitation bridge output and two 16 bit ADC
channels (download). Cost is $600 approx
depends on display or no display etc.
