Email Hygenie:- There are new laws coming out in New Zealand soon that will cover SPAM email.
We are taking steps right now inside MasTec Ltd and our sister company AC~DC Power Ltd, before the legisation starts at the end of this year, to become clean in this area.
We have approx 22,000 clients that we deal with, that will receive either or both of our monthly eNewsletters.
One eNewsletter is for MasTec Ltd, the other is for AC~DC Power Ltd. They are on our websites also. Our mission, which actually started in Dec 2004, is to get this big list of clients, clear of any clients who do not want to receive the eNewsletters. A very big job.
To achieve this, I have given instructions to Cameron Hynes, our email marketing manager, to look after this event, to unsubscribe any returns and bring the list up to a pure state. (difficult to do really, as people keep changing jobs and addresses)
To unsubscribe, you can assist us in this edition, by just going to the unsubscribe button at the end of the eNewsletter and just clicking and sending to us.
If you want to keep receiving do nothing and you will remain in the list. You may of course subscribe for friends and colleagues with the subscribe button.
So please, assist us to get our huge list up to the legislation level of hygenie, as we do not want to offend or annoy any unwilling recipients.
We will be archiving all correspondence on this procedure, as required by the new law, so if you unsubscribe, we will run the unsuscribe list across the master client list, to make sure we are clear each edition. We are writing our own programs to do all of this type of work.
For all new clients, we will maintain our present method of getting clearance or permission, where each new client will be asked if they want to receive the eNewsletters, before we start sending it to them.
Any additional ideas you have that can assist us with this work will be gratefully received, as I know many of you are involved in similar work right now or will be very soon.
I do believe it is good business practice and sound for business also it is courteous.
Thank you so much. Rob Maskell Director

Last months highlites:ZAP Free Rotary Encoders
No one said anything about this, I am amazed, ask any installer, the biggest problem with Encoders is cabling.
Micronor solves many of the most difficult encoder problems, zapping, emi interference, cabling costs, cable and connector breakage and much more. ZAP free are optically coupled encoders with now electronics in the encoder except light. Easy interface, one optical cable. Also the encoder is very light and tough. Solves many many problems.USB DAQ
Many are taking advantage of this new low price
MCC DAQ: -Hard to believe but their are new prices for all the MCC USB range: The PMD-1208LS is now $230
Now the longer story for the monthOver the last year or two, you will have noticed, we have made dozens of product announcements on Wireless products.
The question that may have come for you, is: Who is using these gadgets and for what?
Good question. You know, we are selling more and more wireless systems each month.
It all started, with the Nokia Model 30 M2M modules 2 years ago and they have been used inside factories for reporting alarms to mobile techs and engineers directly to their cell phones, very popular.
That is why we built our low cost Nokia Backplane for the Model 30. You can also control 5 circuits with these devices, people are using them for remote booting of servers in bunkers etc, or open doors, turn on power and much more.
However, it is much more than that, we have Direct RF site transmitting RS-232 data up to 2-30kms line of site. This saves on the GSM call and air time charges. Some people do use our Maestro GPRS modems to transmit data around the NZ and Aus though, very popular.
Bluetooth, yes, people are building systems with Bluetooth in them, like a laptop based system for navigation systems for ships coming into harbours. The pieces of this system all talk on Bluetooth, allowing the Laptop operator to move around the ship without loss of data. Blue tooth is very low cost also. We even sell them in bulk to one OEM.
We have several Hydro Dam/Power Stations control and reporting systems, linked up with complex direct RF radio systems now, saving huge infrastructure costs and making for a nice tight real time system.
We have built complex M2M systems ourselves that control and monitor 40 inputs and outputs, all across, not GSM, but Jetstream CDMA. This is based on a Z World micro and a standard CDMA modem.
We have done the same with GSM for controlling and alarming large IT computer rooms, all from the convenience of your cell phone. even look at air conditioner status, humidity, temp, fire and flood sensors, UPS reports etc.
Do not forget WiFi, it is everywhere, we do serial across WiFi and VGA at almost real time frame rates. What is going to happen when WiMax comes, it will be huge.??
We are even integrating GSM/GPRS and GPS together for mobile systems, and these are in large OEM quantities.
And then there is Zigbee, expect an announcement next month or two on these products.
So it is all changing and rapidly, wire is here for a long time but wireless is redefining how data is used and control happens.
If you look at the present newsletter, we are introducing new technology, that will Gateway complex systems together over wireless. For instance Modbus, OPC, Lonworks, TCP, Serial comms from field devices, controllers, smart transducers, and PLCs also control computers, through gateways with TCP, GSM, Bluetooth etc.
Our experience is this, Wireless runs all day and all night without problems, we have few support phone calls on any of these systems and to date almost no failures.
New Nokia 30 Backplane from SWS
Now build low cost M2M systems using the Nokia 30. Backplane Version 3 is now released, New Relays, DPDT with NO and NC, LED indicators on status etc. We are working on Version 4 also with Serial I/O both GSM and GPRS connection.Wrote in January. This project is running well and we expect to see something in Q2.
We can report in February. This project is now having PCB runs and a short run will be completed late Q1 or early Q2 for field trial.
Linear Temperature Probe from SWS
Semiconductor Temperature probe, linear output, 10mV/Degree C, Thermal Well, runs on 5-28 VDC. range -55 to 150 eg C. Accuracy better than 1 degree. Full Specs
