MasTec is now stocking in quantity Sealevel Serial Servers, both single and two port models. MasTec sells thousands of Sealevel serial comms products each year, it is one of our key companies for OEM supply.
I would like to encourage anyone who is looking for extra serial ports on their PCs, ( and they don't need bus level and interrupt transfer and latency rates), to use serial servers rather than plug in PCI or PCI Express boards.
MasTec has sold loads of serial servers and they work exceedingly well and you can install a serial port up to 100 meters away on a CAT 5 cable, very quickly, a big advantage for all sites, especially industrial and lab work. They let you put the port right by the equipment (PLC, modem, wireless device, instrument, weighscale, bar scanner, micro or what ever).
Sealevel
4101 Ethernet to 1 Port RS-232 Price-$280NZD+GST at present
4104 Ethernet to 1 Port RS-232/422/485 Price-$305NZD+GST at present
4201 Ethernet to 2 Port RS-232 Price-$479NZD+GST at present
4203 Ethernet to 2 Port RS-232/422/485 Price-$529NZD+GST at present
Sealevel also make 4, 8 and 16 port serial servers. Notice you can mix ports also on some models, one can be 232, the next 422 and the next 485 etc, very versatile.
Mix this with new Digi Drop in Networks, and serial and TCP can be everywhere -- easily now.
Last month we introduce new alternative power products -- See the new Solar & Wind category.
We continue to add to this. We are getting enquiries from engineers wanting to put backup systems to the tune of 100 Kilowatts on sites now, which tends to make you think that the power systems in NZ are starting to get overloaded or less reliable than they were once famous for, almost bullet proof 15 years ago before deregulation. We can now provide windwmills to 30kilowatts, free standing towers, inverters to 150 kilowatts, and yet to be approved synchronising inverters.
As promised we are focusing on Instruments this month.
You may recall the idea of virtual instruments introduced by MasTec back in 1989 using MAC Computers, plug in NuBus DAQ boards and LabVIEW software (Laboratory Virtual Instrument WorkBench). Well this idea has never really taken off for bench working engineers for many reasons but it has become the defacto standard in production test instrument systems. This month we are going to look at bench instruments, in other words, traditional box instruments. ( and a little Virtual also ).
When the Chinese came on board a few years back, started with Hong Kong, with deregulating communism and allowing free enteprise, suddenly a heap of new companies appeared that make Instruments, not only in China but in Korea and Taiwan. These companies expanded to take up the gigantic opportunities arising in China as half the worlds electronics moved to China. Imagine all th enew benches with instruments on??!! Wow. We have an excellent array of Instrument makers from this development surge over the last 10-15 years.
Rigol ( China ) now supply some badged models for Agilent and other manufacturers. Now that is quite something when you think about it, especially in such a short period of time. The Rigol product has to be excellent for this to happen.
Also Taiwan's famous GW Instek company (Good Will), is now making a greater and greater array of excellent Instruments.Talking of array -- Array ( China ) have a 6 digit DMM which is as good as any out there plus other products, like programmable loads and power supplies. We sell lots of Array Power Supplies because they are the best performance for cost on the market we feel right now, so have a look.
Now what about Spectrum Analysis, well that was a hard one because it was so expensive, now it is affordable, look at ED Corporation's unit 9KHZ to 6.2 GHZ, with reasonable specs, excellent for the money. Interfaces with USB or LAN so good in production or Bench, excellent dynamic range also (-105dBm to 20dBm ).
So here is our list of manufacturers with links
Bench Instruments GW Instek, Rigol, Array, Anshuman Tech, Atten, Global Specialties, ICS, Protek
PC based instruments Elan, ETC, RK Systems, NIAlso there is a large list of lower cost bench instruments in the Education section.
Next month we will look at Mesh Radio and where it is being used and the potential; for our clients to add this to their products for very very low cost. Without mesh interfaces, it is going to be hard to sell products soon, it is the new USB or Serial with no wires.
Smart Works Systems has just received several new contracts
1/ Build two new geotechnical road analysis systems. If we get permission we will highlite this in a coming issue, it has a heap of technology inside it.
2/ Build a complete new Windows/Facade Testing System
3/ Upgrade to a new level the Windows/Facade Tester Software for one site.
