Hello to all our Readers around the World,
Lots of new products this month. As you can imagine, with over 250 principals we could make this an encyclopedia but we only pick the new technology or innovative to show off.
Smart Works Systems
SWS have released a range of simple to use but Smart DIN Rail Power Controller Module with relays or PNP or NPN power transistors. The modules with adjustable variable thresholds on the inputs, link to AC and DC logic systems or analog systems, to allow easy power control. more
Zigbee Radio as promised last month
The original intent of Zigbee was to make it low cost so it could be put in all gadgets, sort of like the original bluetooth idea. Then mesh was introduced and higher power and suddenly Zigbee is better than Bluetooth ( except in bandwidth ). It can go 1 mile node to node (distances outside) and also now allows meshs of thousands of RF nodes, making super links. Can now truly run on battery power making DiN ( Drop in Networks ) and much more. Superb technology and low cost.
Now getting a little more technical. I have been working reflashing zigbee chips to new revisions for clients, although they can do this themselves with a little practice. Digi has a Software Utility for PCs that is a free downloadthe Digi FTP site, all the latest zigbee revisions and believe me there are loads of revisions, so it pays to learn how to do reflashing. The reason for the revisions is primarily to put new functionality into the zigbee systems as it evolves.
For instance at a simple evolving level :-
Zigbee Series I allowed point to point and point to multi pointZigbee Series II added meshing
Zigbee Series ZB added more sleep functionality and over-the-air firmware updates
Digi Mesh added sleep in routers, gateways and nodes, true DiN.
Expect to see this functionality to continue to evolve.
Note :-
Series II/ZNet 2.5 uses the same chip set as the ZB and the Digi Mesh which is very important as you can now take a Series II and make a ZB module by connecting to a PC using the OEM development carrier board ( either RS-232 or USB) and using the utlity X-CTU, download the new ZB or Digi Mesh revisions and update to that level.
So in ZB Version it will be easy to update a complete mesh using some new tools by downloading over the air and reflashing each node. Now that is slick.
The reason for the info, is to build confidence in the technology. It is one of these open platform type technologies where dozens of companies are contributing to the standards and the intercompany sharing is high.
To start working with Zigbee buy one of the low cost kits link
Now if you want to get involved in a small webinar Zigbee course here is a link
A note on the ARRAY PLCs again.
I want more people to start using these units, they are very powerful and simple to use, very low cost.
As reported last month, some clients and myself have been playing with the Array PLCs. We all like these litte PLC units very much and the programming method is very powerful and also very quick. It is as simple as "click select, click drop, and wire the function blocks up". There are no loops as the PLC is always looping and it just watchs inputs and adjust outputs based on the program. All the functions are easy to use and powerful, as is the LCD display functions. The complex functions have pop up property tables which make it very simple to set up.
The simulator is great, does a good job and allows complete testing of a system before flashing the PLC.
I have not tried controlling these units with a telephone touch tone yet, or make them speak but soon. I have built a propogation house controller for growing trees from cuttings and seeds. Very very easy. I have temperature, humidity and switch controls inputs for overriding all the outputs. Outputs are open and close the vents, turn on fan, misters based on humidity and temperature and watering on a clock sequence, plus an alarm if things get too hot, this can be audible or SMS.
The FAB series is suitable for this type of work and the SR allows a lot more sophisication if required.
Here is a pict of a simple program with a 12 input 8 output FAB PLC.
If you are a Automation company, a PLC installer or need simple low cost control, this is it. The prices are amazing.
Array PLC FAB and SR Series - Array - now in stock
Array Industrial LCD Counter, Timer, RPM - Array - now in stock
Array SH-300 LCD Graphic/Text Display for PLCs & controllers- Array - now in stock
And a little more on the LED lights -- LED Lighting Specialists - linkFor all those LED Lighting Dealers in Oceania.
Stardust -- Some new links for new PDF catalogs for LED lights, very nice and professional.
LedTek -- New -- Fluorescent size tubes now with LEDs in them, yes long tubes, retrofits and the cost is good.
Contact Manasi @ MasTec about the LED products you need and for pricing.
Next month also:-Lascar Logger
Both these companies are becoming stars in their fields.
Lascar heads up.
The new Lascar Loggers Temperature & Humidity with LCD displays will be a hit, it is always nice to see the data on the screen before you start logging, also their super low cost Real Time logger.
Next month we will show the details
Gamatronic Power + : the hotswap - redundant - scaleable UPSs from 10KVA ot 100KVA.
Gamatronic are the leaders in this type of technology above 10KVA.
MasTec believes there are many sites that are buying expensive old style UPSs, mainly parallel redundant, where they could be buying this simpler, lower cost and more reliable technology.
Smaller footprint, lighter, more efficient and simple installation.
More next month.
