Quad Encoder USB Interface -- SSI and Quadrature Versions Available

The Encoder Converter translates encoder data to industry standard USB 2.0 format that can be read by a computer. The module’s four available channels are factory configured for SSI absolute encoders and/or quadrature incremental encoders, in any combination totaling four encoders.

The Encoder Converter can be programmed through the USB interface for number of bits with absolute encoders.

For incremental encoders, count mode (Pulse/Dir, X1, X2, X4), set count value, and preset/reset on index are all programmable through the USB input.

SSI and incremental encoder counter register length are programmable, up to 32 bits. T

his module is ideal for system setup and debugging, data acquisition and PC based control applications.

Module includes one 3-meter USB

Dual Encoder USB Interface -- SSI and Quadrature Versions Available

The Encoder USB Interface translates encoder position to industry standard USB 2.0 format that can be read by a computer. Each module can handle signals from two encoders. Modules are available for SSI absolute encoders, as well as quadrature incremental encoders.

The module can be programmed through the USB interface for number of bits, clock speed and position
offset for absolute encoders. For incremental encoders, count mode (X1, X2, X4), reset, preset, and preset/reset on index are programmable through the USB input.

The Encoder USB Interface is ideal for system setup and debugging, data acquisition and PC based control
applications.

A length of DIN rail is supplied with each module. The module simply snaps directly to the DIN rail and is
ready to use.

MSHA Certified Encoders for Mines etc

Mining safety has been in the news recently along with references to the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). This organization was founded 25 years ago under the US Department of labor and performs routine mine inspections to make sure they are in compliance with safety standards.

In addition, they provide guidance to mine operators about best practices and provide technical support and certifications that ensure equipment will operate safely in mining environments.

MSHA's efforts have contributed to reducing the incidence of annual mine fatalities by a factor of five since they have been in existence. At BEI we are happy to note that our H38 encoder has passed the rigorous testing requirements of the MSHA.

To our knowledge, the H38 is the only MSHA certified optical encoder in the world that is rated for use in those difficult environments. Should you have need of rotary feedback in mining or other similar hazardous areas, it's good to know you can count on BEI products to help get you there safely.

Large hollow shaft encoders

Picture above is a hollow shaft encoders. The HS35 is BEI's most popular and well-known version, however for those really big jobs you'll want to consider the HS45 instead.

This large-bore hollow shaft encoder can accommodate shafts up to 1.750" in diameter. It also has all the same features found in our smaller hollow shaft encoders such as dual preloaded bearings for stability and high output line drivers for the data channels.

BEI also included the option for dual, redundant, electrically isolated outputs. Now you can send two sets of data signals to two different controllers simultaneously. Alternatively, you can use the second output as a backup if you anticipate that your application may be hazardous to electronics.

And that's not all. BEI had this unit certified under the European ATEX initiative with an intrinsically safe rating for use in Hazardous Environments. This is a lot of encoder for those really tough jobs. PDF
