Digi has several pathways to make wireless project integration easier. That is building a system consisting of wireless end point devices to the Server, using all types of platforms such as zigbee, Wifi, GPRS, 3G, Ethernet etc without a huge struggle and loads of programming.
They even have a GPRS and 3G Hosting site to allow easy data transmission. ( Note it is tricky to send data by GPRS and 3G without buying Vodafones expensive VPN programs each month.)

We invite all wireless people to look at this and see if it is useful for building systems quickly without programming.
Digi renamed DAQ (we announced this in Dec 2008) to iDigi Dia.
iDigi is Digi's new brand for fast wireless M2M solution building. DAQ was a good name, but Dia (Device Integration Application) and the notion of being able to connect remote devices in a day were among the reasons for the name change. Same product, but with additional features and a roadmap for yet additional features throughout the year, including provisioning/commissioning tools for XBee deployments using iDigi Dia.
Please visit our new site www.idigi.com and register with Digi's Developer Program.
You'll then be able to download the latest Dia distribution code.
You'll also receive access to our iDigi platform, our M2M Delivery Service, hosted by Digi. That means no IT infrastructure for rolling out M2M solutions.
Digi hosts the Platform-as-a-Service
that provides gateway/XBee management, storage cache and messaging
services between your application and connected remote asset (sensors,
PLCs, etc.).

In late 2008 Digi introduced a line of wired and wireless device networking solutions designed for reliable operation in hazardous environments.
The product line includes the Digi Connect® WAN IA cellular router, XTend" radio frequency (RF) modem, PortServer® TS Haz MEI serial server and Digi One® IAP Haz serial server. The products are designed to network enable devices in manufacturing and industrial environments where exposure to volatile liquids and gases and severe temperature ranges is common.
The new products are Class 1, Division 2 rated, certifying them for use in environments where volatile flammable liquids, vapors or gases may exist. Industries exhibiting these characteristics include power distribution, oil and gas, water/wastewater, pharmaceutical, food and beverage and agribusiness to name a few.
The products also feature conformal coating, a spray-on treatment applied to the printed circuit assembly (PCA) that provides a protective barrier against moisture and corrosion.
The products are also rated and lab tested to meet extended operating temperatures typically required in industrial environments. The Digi Connect WAN IA can operate in temperatures between -30° C and 70° C, the XTend RF modem between -40° C and 85° C, and the PortServer TS Haz MEI and Digi One IAP between -35° C and 74° C.
The Digi Connect WAN IA is an Ethernet-to-cellular router with built in Modbus that provides enterprise backup and primary connectivity to devices in remote locations and features industrial hardware/software components. Ideal for any environment where running a cable is difficult such as crossing a highway.
The XTend RF modem provides serial cable replacement over a 900MHz RF connection and can provide up to 40 miles of range in line-of-sight conditions.
The PortServer TS Haz MEI serial server provides high-performance serial-to-Ethernet connectivity and makes it easy to connect one to four serial devices to a network.
The Digi One IAP Haz provides serial-to-Ethernet connectivity and a protocol bridge to allow interoperability of industrial serial and Ethernet devices.
The Digi Connect WAN IA, XTend RF modem, PortServer TS Haz MEI and Digi One IAP Haz are now available. For more information, please visit

The ConnectPort" X4 gateway is now available in a ruggedized NEMA4X/IP66 enclosure providing protection against dust, water and ice. The ConnectPort X4 NEMA is also Class I, Division 2 certified for operating in environments where flammable vapors and gasses are present.
ConnectPort X gateways aggregate and transport ZigBee/802.15.4 network traffic to central data applications over cellular, Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections.
ConnectPort X gateways are a key element of Digi's Drop-in Networking family of products a collection of hardware components that also includes our XBee® adapters, modules, extenders and bridges which together enable distributed electronic devices to be wirelessly networked where no wired infrastructure exists or where access to an existing network is prohibited.
ConnectPort X gateways feature an integrated ZigBee/802.15.4 module plus cellular (3G, 2.5G or 2G), Wi-Fi, GPS and local storage options.
Several physical interfaces are available as well, including Ethernet, serial, USB and a 1-Wire sensor port that accepts Digi's Watchport® sensors (X8 model only).
ConnectPort X gateways are available in multiple configurations to suit various applications and connectivity needs.

Digi expands connectivity options by adding Wi-Fi capability to the ConnectPort" WAN high speed 3G cellular router family.
The enterprise class cellular routers have integrated 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi (ad hoc) allowing even more devices to leverage cellular wireless data connections for WAN access to the Internet, including secure integrated VPN to corporate networks.
With an upgradeable wireless network platform, customers are able to quickly migrate to future 3G platforms and beyond with supported Type 2 PCMCIA Card slots, PCI Express modules, or PCI Express cards. Also included are RS-232 serial ports for connecting legacy COM devices and built-in 10/100 Ethernet switches for connecting additional TCP/IP network devices.
Digi Radios support most PLC protocols transparently.
Some protocols like Modbus require considerations on latency and this can be accomodated with the radio running at higher baud rates than the PLC or in certain cases with a special factory configuration.
So do feel free to use these Wireless sstems with the PLC systems you have.
